NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 1354

Do it with gusto.

We all have tasks to complete. Some we enjoy and others not so much. But at least for daily necessities, they need to be completed.

While it may not make sense to put in an over-the-top performance for something that we’ll just need to do again tomorrow—like making the bed, for which an average effort is likely just fine—doing it while being resentful or unhappy won’t lead to good results for either the task or for ourselves.

We can make all these chores a bit easier when we perform them with a happy attitude and some verve. There is some truth to “whistle while you work.” If we act like we feel happy and sing, whistle, smile, or add a bounce to our steps, we’ll feel better no matter what we’re doing, even if it is picking up dog poop or cleaning the litter box.

Today’s message reminds me that my attitude affects my perception. When I’m happy just to exist, anything I do can be an opportunity to enjoy myself.

Please reflect and share. How do you tackle tasks you dislike?
