NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 1131

Don’t mute yourself.

I hosted a family Zoom call today. For the first half of the call, we all caught up with each other about current events in our lives. It was interesting; it was collaborative; it was fun.

Then my internet connection became wonky. After it re-established itself, no one else responded to anything I said. They talked right over me. I was frustrated and felt a bit shunned.

After 10 or 15 minutes of this, I finally realized that Zoom had muted me when my connection recovered itself. I was self-muted and wondering why no one wanted to hear me. Amused, I unmuted myself and the call continued nicely from my perspective.

Today’s message asked me to ponder the various ways I may mute my input in discourse and into life in general. If I want to be heard, I need to make sure I don’t get in the way of my own message.

Please reflect and share. How might you mute yourself?
