NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 1137

Pick your pleasures.

Some days may seem like a round of duties and chores. We have obligations. Others have expectations of us. Our days may feel filled with lots of shoulds and musts.

Some of these responsibilities we impose on ourselves. Others are placed upon us by other people. But we have agreed to accept them, however willingly or unwillingly.

It is important for us to remember, however, that we alone are in charge of our lives, what we do and don’t do. There may be repercussions if we omit some responsibilities, but we still make the choice of whether or not to shoulder them.

Conversely, we also are in control of how much fun and pleasure we have in life. By choosing what we do and don’t do, we can allot time to activities that bring us joy and fulfillment.

Doing so is a form of self-care. It’s just as important as healthy diet and exercise and adequate sleep. Ensuring we have enough fun and pleasure bolsters our well-being.

We may need to schedule time to devote to hobbies or enjoyable pursuits. Otherwise, it may be far too easy to prioritize them behind other obligations. But what is the purpose of life if not to celebrate existence and enjoy it?

Today’s message suggests that it is time to up my fun quotient. I’ve been busy with self-assumed responsibilities recently. I don’t need to shirk them. But I can carve out time to create joy among my obligations. Reframing those duties can also help me have more fun at all times in my life.

Please reflect and share. What pleasures have you been ignoring to your detriment?
