NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 1269

Only you can do it.

It’s a catchphrase: life purpose. It may imply grand goals and heroic efforts to us.

If we feel we don’t have or understand our life purpose, we may feel lacking. What if we have a life purpose and we miss out on it? What if we don’t know what we’re supposed to be achieving?

Each of us is a unique creature. There’s no one else quite like we are. We have our own special blend of talents, outlooks, knowledge, and beliefs.

No matter what we do, only we can do it. No one else will ever be able to precisely reflect our actions and accomplishments, whatever they are.

After I lost my job during COVID, I was fixated on following my life purpose. My passed cats serve as mentors for me. In this instance, I consulted with Elphinstone, a sweet and magnificent Tonkinese in his physical incarnation.

“What am I supposed to be doing? I want to fulfill my life purpose?”

“What was my purpose when I lived with you?”

“Well, you were always loving, kind, and fun to be around. Just being with you brought me and others joy. You were such a splendid companion.”

“Why isn’t that enough for you? Couldn’t that be your purpose, too?”

“Ohhh…,”

That brief discussion altered my view on life purpose. Perhaps it was enough just to be an authentic, kind, and loving person. Whatever I did, whatever I achieved, if I did it kindly and lovingly, and enjoyed my life, I was fulfilling my purpose.

Today’s message reminds me of that conversation with Elph. When I don’t know what I should be doing, I can think back to his approach on life—being kind, being loving, having fun with whatever life presents.

Please reflect and share. How do you feel about your life purpose?
