Notes From The Awareness: 284

We are what we think.

Please discuss. How does this play out in life?

I’ll start us out Many of us are familiar with the concept that our thoughts create our reality. Scientific studies seem to support this: remembering eating an apple activates the same areas of the brain as actually eating one. Most of us would agree that having a positive or negative outlook can affect an outcome. What we think does affect what we experience.

Much of what we think about on any give day revolves around ourselves—what we like or don’t like (particularly about ourselves), what we should or shouldn’t do, what we did well and what we messed up, how we compare to other people. We’re in constant self-evaluation mode, often focusing on the negative. “I was stupid to do that. ” “I’m fat.” I have a hard time learning new things.” “I wish I was more like so and so.”

Having a generally positive or negative mindset about life also influences our self-image and self-talk. If we’re often angry or pessimistic, we’re likely to think of ourselves unkindly. Those who are more easygoing or optimistic may tend to be more accepting and appreciative of themselves. Our worldview may well be driven by how we think and feel about ourselves.

Today’s message reminds me that my past self-image and thoughts create the me existing right now. My current vision of myself determines who I am in the future. When I consciously own all the wonderful things about me, I solidify them going forward. I create myself with my thoughts.

How about you? What do you think about yourself?
